Collaborative Project with Lycoming and Hartzell Yakima, Washington – July 10, 2019: CubCrafters is upgrading its industry leading personal adventure aircraft, the XCub, with a new firewall forward package, including a much more powerful engine and propeller combination developed in cooperation with key industry partners.

FAA certified in 2016, the XCub is lighter, stronger, and faster than any aircraft in its category. Combined with a larger payload and greater range, these attributes fulfill a wider mission profile than any other comparative aircraft in this class.

The new firewall forward package being offered expands the capabilities of CubCrafters’ flagship aircraft even more. Dubbed the CC393i, the new lightweight fuel injected engine develops more than 215 HP, but adds only 10 pounds to the aircraft’s overall empty weight when compared to similar legacy fuel injected 180 HP engine options.

Developed as part of a growing collaboration between CubCrafters and Lycoming, the new CC393i engine is only available from CubCrafters and offered exclusively on the XCub.

“The opportunity to work together with Lycoming to develop this new, high-power and lightweight engine for the XCub has been truly inspiring.

The CC393i, with its advances in technology and materials, absolutely delivers on the high performing adventure that we are dedicated to bring to our customers,” shared Patrick Horgan, CubCrafters president. A newly developed lightweight composite, three-bladed, constant speed propeller called the ‘Pathfinder’ will also be first launched by Hartzell Propeller as part of the updated firewall forward package for the XCub. With both updated aerodynamics and internal structure, the new propeller is quieter, smoother, and optimized for back country operations.

“From its inception, our XCub development team set out to design a modern Cub with terrific STOL capabilities, like our LSA Carbon Cub, but one that could travel faster and farther, while accommodating all of the gear that a pilot and passenger might want to carry for an extended adventure” recalls CubCrafters founder Jim Richmond. “Now, after having met that goal, we have refined the design for even more performance and capability.”

This new firewall forward package features many of the same improvements that were first introduced on the massively popular CC363i engine that is offered exclusively on the 3rd generation of CubCrafters experimental Carbon Cub aircraft, the EX-3 and FX-3.

However, it’s not all bad news for Tokyo-bound Aussies.

The airline’s latest schedule update shows that from December 1, 2014 through until at least March 28, 2015, JAL’s daily Sydney-Tokyo flight will be upgraded from the current Boeing 777-200 to the newer Boeing 777-300ER.

That long-range jet comes with JAL’s latest first class suites plus lie-flat beds in SkySuite business class (below).

HRABOVO, Ukraine (KXAN/AP) – A Malaysia Airlines Boeing 777 with 295 people on board has crashed in the Ukraine after being shot out of the air. The jetliner was shot down as it flew over the conflict-riddled eastern portion of Ukraine near the Russian border, the Ukrainian government and pro-Russian separatists deny they shot at the airliner.

The flight, known as MH17, was enroute to Kuala Lumpur from Amsterdam when it went down. There were 280 passengers and 15 crew members onboard.

In the Social Networks already the hashtags #RIPMIH17 NBC News reports senior U.S. Officials confirmed MH17 was shot down by a surface-to-air missile.

A reporter for the Associated Press counted at least 22 bodies among the wreckage at the crash site. It is unclear if these casualties were on the plane or killed while on the ground.

Popular flight-tracking website Flightaware.com showed the plane was last over Ukraine, when it disappeared from tracking. The aircraft was flying at a cruising altitude of 33,000 feet when it last reported in to Flightaware.

Twitter exploded with the news in various languages, including pictures and videos of plumes of smoke. NBC News aired this video, saying they were unable to independently confirm the smoke plume is from MH17.

Still, a Reuters correspondent is reportedly on the scene in Easter Ukraine and “sees burning wreckage of air plane, bodies on ground.”

The area where the aircraft reportedly crashed is has seen frequent rocket attacks in recent days as part of the ongoing conflict between the Ukraine and Russia. Ukrainian military officials said a military transport plane was shot at as it flew over the area earlier this week.

Malaysia Airlines 777

Malaysia Airlines made headlines in March when a Boeing 777 disappeared over the south Indian Ocean on flight MH370 to China and has not been found. All 241 aboard are presumed dead. Flight MH370 disappeared in an area with scattered radar coverage. Thursday’s flight, MH17, was in an area with heavy radar coverage when it crashed.

The airline flies 13 Boeing 777-200ER aircraft. The crashed aircraft, registration number 9M-MRD, was delivered to Malaysia Airlines on July 29, 1997. A typical cabin configuration for a Malaysia Airlines 777 allows for 35 business class seats and 247 economy seats for a total of 282 passenger seats, according to Seat Guru.com.

Design Twin – Fuel Consumption Efficient, Quiet and Reliable
Three engine manufacturers developed a more efficient and quieter turbofan to power the 777. GE90 General Electric offers its series, Rolls Royce Trent 800 series offers and Pratt & Whitney PW4000 series offers. GE is the exclusive provider of engines for longer-range models of the 777 and the freighter, with its GE90-115B and GE90-110B. The three engine types provide excellent economy in terms of fuel consumption.

Lighter Design
Progress in the development and production of advanced composite materials that enable weight reduction is evident at 777. Tail in vertical and horizontal plane have been introduced carbon fibers embedded in hardened resins available recently. The soils of the cabin are also made with this advanced material.

Composite materials, including resins and adhesives, formed structural 9% weight of 777; is the same type of material used on the 787 Dreamliner.

The Sunseeker’s accomplishment may not seem as impressive as, say, the Solar Impulse crew’s plan to circumnavigate the globe using nothing but wind currents and solar power – or, even its test flight from San Fran to Phoenix – but it’s a huge step forward in the Raymonds’ plans to bring solar-powered electric aircraft to the recreational airplane market.
