Dominican Air Force opens Air Base to Civil Aviation

Dominican Republic, San Isidro Air Force Base – July 16

The F.A.D, ( Fuerza Aerea Dominicana ) inaugurated the first service center certified by the IDAC, Dominican Institute of Civil Aviation, to provide  maintenance and repair service to national and international, private and commercial aircraft with new equipment and certified personnel.

The Vice President of the Dominican Republic, Rafael Alburquerque as well as the Director of the IDAC, Jose Thomas Perez, Aristides Fernandez Zucco (Director of the DA, Airports Department), Antonio Peña, Chief of the Armed Forces, and the Mayor General Carlos Altuna tezano directed the inauguration act, celebrated by the IDAC in the air force Base.

A Fly In of 14 private airplanes from Dominican Republic Aeroclubs, Led by Mauro Isoldi landed at the base to participate in the ceremony. The Group also have scheduled a Fly In to the neighbor island Puerto Rico to visit the San Juan Aeroclub.

Carlos Leroux, President of the Private Aviation Facilities Committee, congratulated the head of the new Service Center, Colonel Alvarez. Leroux prompted the importance of having this facility, for future national and international fly-ins, and the strategic location of it, and his capabilities to provide service to national and US planes traveling to the Dominican Republic and the Caribbean.

The director of IDAC, Jose Thomas Perez, talked about how this is one more step towards the advances the country is making to encourage civil national and international aviation in the country.

The Service Center provides services for avionics, annual checks, maintenance, propellers, engince, turbines, calibrations and paint services for aircraft and helicopters.
