For the first time, the country is participating with a stand at NBAA 2025, the leading executive private aviation trade show in the United States.

Las Vegas, USA—The Dominican Republic continues to take important steps toward becoming the leading hub for executive private aviation, which encompasses high-net-worth tourism.

This was announced by the executive director of the Airport Department (DA), Víctor Pichardo, at the Business Aviation Convention & Exhibition (NBAA) 2025, where the country is participating with a stand for the first time.

Pichardo also indicated that this has been possible thanks to the support that President Luis Abinader’s administration has given to the sector, implementing the necessary measures through the creation of the Protocol for Non-Commercial Private Aviation, established by decree.

“In these five years of government, today we can assure you that we are on the right path to achieving our goal of becoming a hub for executive private aviation, attracting more and more aircraft in this sector, which brings significant economic benefits to our tourism industry,” Pichardo stated.

Dominican-based companies, such as Grupo Punta Cana, Panorama Jets, and Universal Aviation RD, also participated in the fair, showcasing the services they offer in the country.

The Protocol for Non-Commercial Private Aviation is an instrument that establishes the procedure for the reception and departure of private aircraft in the Dominican Republic, with the aim of facilitating this sector.

In this regard, the president of Universal Aviation International, Greg Evans, praised the country’s growth in this area and congratulated the authorities for demonstrating their merits by participating in these types of events.

The Business Aviation Convention & Exhibition (NBAA) is the largest annual business aviation convention and exhibition in the United States, bringing together approximately 1,100 aviation companies and more than 27,000 visitors each year.

Panama. – The Department of Airports (DA) and the United States Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) began collaborating to establish improvements that will optimize airport operations in the country.

It was highlighted that this is the first time that this type of presentation of FAA airport procedures has been made to a country, in addition to the fact that more than four million North American passengers travel to the country each year.

During a meeting led by DA Director Víctor Pichardo and FAA Director for the Western Hemisphere, Melvin Cintrón, several key points were identified to be addressed within the framework of cooperation, including the creation of a National Airports Program to monitor improvements and implement technologies.

Also, the creation of infrastructure for advanced mobility, green airports; wildlife control at new airports, such as Cabo Rojo International Airport in Pedernales and El Granero del Sur domestic airport in San Juan; as well as cooperation in training airport inspection personnel.

In the framework of the meeting, held at the FAA offices, located at the U.S. Embassy in Panama, Víctor Pichardo highlighted the Dominican government’s interest in being at the forefront of international best practices for the National Airport System.

“This also serves as a great value to strengthen the proposal we are working on to begin the review and update of the DA regulatory framework,” Pichardo stated.

For his part, Melvin Cintrón noted that this is the first time this type of procedure has been presented to a country, and indicated that approximately four million North American passengers travel to the Dominican Republic each year.

“It is important to see the Dominican government’s desire to raise traveler safety expectations; we want a safe hemisphere, and this type of engagement is key to achieving those goals,” Cintrón noted.

The FAA has 42,000 people working worldwide and is present in 35 countries and 22 territories.

In addition to Cintrón, FAA representatives included Giles Strickler, regional representative for Central America, Colombia, Venezuela, and the Dominican Republic; Chris Rucker and Lourdes Ecker, officers.

Participating virtually were John Dermody, FAA Director of Airport Safety and Standards; Michael Meyers, Airport Engineering Division; Alberto Rodríguez, foreign affairs specialist for the Office of Airport Safety and Standards; and Valeria Rodríguez, official for Central America, Colombia, Venezuela, and the Dominican Republic, among others.

Two Friends Build a Replica of the Famous Triplane

The Red Baron, Manfred von Richthofen, was a German fighter pilot during World War I who is considered to be one of the most successful aces in history. He was known for his distinctive red Fokker Dr.I triplane, which he flew to 80 confirmed victories.

Now, two friends in Argentina have built a flying replica of the Red Baron’s triplane. Antonio García, a pilot, and Héctor Puga, a luthier, began working on the project in 2018. They used plans from the original aircraft and built the triplane using traditional luthier tools.

The triplane is made of wood and fabric, and it is powered by a 100-horsepower engine. It is a faithful replica of the original aircraft, and it is capable of flying.

García and Puga have been flying the triplane at air shows around Argentina. They are proud of their accomplishment, and they are happy to share their passion for aviation with the public.

The Red Baron’s triplane is a symbol of aviation history. It is a reminder of the bravery and skill of the pilots who flew these aircraft during World War I. The replica built by García and Puga is a testament to their craftsmanship and dedication.

Additional details about the project:

  • The triplane took three years to build.
  • The builders used more than 1,000 hours of labor to complete the project.
  • The triplane is made of wood and fabric, and it is powered by a 100-horsepower engine.
  • The triplane has a top speed of 120 miles per hour.
  • The triplane has a wingspan of 24 feet.
  • The triplane weighs 1,200 pounds.

Challenges that the builders faced:

  • Finding the original plans for the triplane.
  • Obtaining the materials needed to build the triplane.
  • Building the triplane to the exact specifications of the original aircraft.

The international promoter of private aviation, Jim Parker, assured that the Dominican Republic is number one in arrivals of commercial visitors, “and thanks to the Airport Department, IDAC and CESAC, measures are being taken to make it the number 1 destination for private aviation.”

Puerto Plata, DR. The Dominican Republic received this Monday some 11 aircraft with 40 passengers on board from Florida, the United States, and Canada, as part of the celebration of the Fly In “Caribbean Flying Adventures 2024”, in which the contribution of the director of the Airport Department (DA), Víctor Pichardo, in favor of the sector was recognized.

The recreational aeronautical event, coordinated by the renowned American promoter Jim Parker, was received at the Gregorio Luperón International Airport, in Puerto Plata, by a delegation of the DA headed by Pichardo, the director of CESAC, General Suárez Floreal and representatives of the Party sector, where it was highlighted that the country is ready for general aviation.

“I appreciate this distinction, on behalf of the Airport Department, which recognizes, since the beginning of our management, the efforts, initiatives and tireless work that we carry out for the benefit of promoting our country as a friendly destination for Non-Commercial Private Aviation,” the official said in his speech.

He reiterated that making the Dominican Republic the main destination in the Caribbean for Non-Commercial Private Aviation is an effort that has been realized since the creation of the first Protocol for the Management of Non-Commercial Private Aviation, implemented by decree 259-23 by President Luis Abinader.

“Jim, from the bottom of my heart, thank you for all your efforts and dedication to the promotion and growth of our country. You are part of a country effort, sponsored by our president, with the coordination and support of the Ministry of Tourism and our institution,” he said.

For the second consecutive year the Dominican flag flew in the welcome arch of the event

Oshkosh, USA – Once again the Dominican Republic exhibited at EAA Airventure, in Oshkosh, United States, the progress generated in the government of President Luis Abinader in favor of the development of non-commercial private aviation.

For a week, the Airport Department, in coordination with the Ministry of Tourism and the agencies of the airport and aeronautical sector, showed hundreds of pilots, aviation fans and visitors in general, all the facilities and benefits that the country has to receive this type of aviation.

Víctor Pichardo, executive director of the DA, recalled the importance and significance that the Protocol for Non-Commercial Private Aviation has represented, implemented through decree 259-23.

“It is through this decree and the active promotion of the country in these fairs, that have allowed us to receive more and more Fly Ins year after year, an activity that has a positive impact on tourism and, therefore, on the national economy,” he indicated. Pichardo.

EAA Airventure is the largest general and experimental aviation fair in the United States, taking place for 71 years, in which the country has been participating since 2009.

Collaborative Project with Lycoming and Hartzell Yakima, Washington – July 10, 2019: CubCrafters is upgrading its industry leading personal adventure aircraft, the XCub, with a new firewall forward package, including a much more powerful engine and propeller combination developed in cooperation with key industry partners.

FAA certified in 2016, the XCub is lighter, stronger, and faster than any aircraft in its category. Combined with a larger payload and greater range, these attributes fulfill a wider mission profile than any other comparative aircraft in this class.

The new firewall forward package being offered expands the capabilities of CubCrafters’ flagship aircraft even more. Dubbed the CC393i, the new lightweight fuel injected engine develops more than 215 HP, but adds only 10 pounds to the aircraft’s overall empty weight when compared to similar legacy fuel injected 180 HP engine options.

Developed as part of a growing collaboration between CubCrafters and Lycoming, the new CC393i engine is only available from CubCrafters and offered exclusively on the XCub.

“The opportunity to work together with Lycoming to develop this new, high-power and lightweight engine for the XCub has been truly inspiring.

The CC393i, with its advances in technology and materials, absolutely delivers on the high performing adventure that we are dedicated to bring to our customers,” shared Patrick Horgan, CubCrafters president. A newly developed lightweight composite, three-bladed, constant speed propeller called the ‘Pathfinder’ will also be first launched by Hartzell Propeller as part of the updated firewall forward package for the XCub. With both updated aerodynamics and internal structure, the new propeller is quieter, smoother, and optimized for back country operations.

“From its inception, our XCub development team set out to design a modern Cub with terrific STOL capabilities, like our LSA Carbon Cub, but one that could travel faster and farther, while accommodating all of the gear that a pilot and passenger might want to carry for an extended adventure” recalls CubCrafters founder Jim Richmond. “Now, after having met that goal, we have refined the design for even more performance and capability.”

This new firewall forward package features many of the same improvements that were first introduced on the massively popular CC363i engine that is offered exclusively on the 3rd generation of CubCrafters experimental Carbon Cub aircraft, the EX-3 and FX-3.

ABOUT CUBCRAFTERS

CubCrafters, founded in 1980 by current owner and CEO, Jim Richmond, is located at McAllister Field Airport (YKM) in Yakima, WA. CubCrafters’ roots are in the 70-year history of classic taildragger aviation, but its products and services are innovative and completely modern. CubCrafters designs and manufactures Experimental, Light Sport, and FAA certified Part 23 aircraft.

The Top Cub, with a useful load of over 1,000 lbs., is the most up-to-date iteration of the historic Super Cub available. Now in its 3rd generation, the Carbon Cub family has redefined expectations for backcountry aircraft with light weight, powerful engines, and breathtaking performance. The flagship XCub substantially expands the mission profile of Certified personal adventure aircraft with its higher speed, longer range, and larger payload. The company’s newest introduction, the 215 HP CC393i engine further advances XCub performance.

About Las Americas Airport

Las Américas International Airport (SpanishAeropuerto Internacional Las Américas, or AILA) (IATASDQICAO:MDSD) is an international airport located in Punta Caucedo, near Santo Domingo and Boca Chica in the Dominican Republic. The airport is run by Aeropuertos Dominicanos Siglo XXI (AERODOM), a private corporation based in the Dominican Republic under a 25-year concession to build, operate, and transfer (BOT) six airports of the country’s airports. Las Américas usually receives Boeing 737, 747, 757, 767, 777; Airbus A319, A320, A330, A340; and many long-, mid-, short-haul aircraft.

About Boeing 787

The Boeing 787 Dreamliner is a long-range, mid-size wide-bodytwin-engine jet airliner developed by Boeing Commercial Airplanes. Its variants seat 210 to 335 passengers. It is Boeing’s most fuel-efficient airliner and the world’s first major airliner to use composite materials as the primary material in the construction of its airframe. The 787 has been designed to be 20% more fuel efficient than the 767 it is to replace. The 787 Dreamliner’s distinguishing features include mostly electrical flight systems, a four-panel windshield, noise-reducing chevrons on its engine nacelles, and a smoother nose contour. It shares a common type rating with the larger Boeing 777, allowing qualified pilots to operate both models, due to related design features.[4]
