Punta Caucedo. – In an emotional ceremony held at the Norge Botello Aeronautical Complex, the Dominican Institute of Civil Aviation, Idac, paid tribute to Franklin Polanco: pilot, communicator and one of the main promoters of the aeronautical development of the country.

In an event headed by the general director of Idac, Héctor Porcella, the leadership of civil aviation celebrated the naming of the main hall of the Higher Academy of Aeronautical Sciences, Asca, with the name of the renowned Dominican professional.

“Due to his status as a pilot, communicator and promoter of aeronautical development in the country, Franklin Polanco is part of the history of aviation, beyond our borders,” said Porcella, at the time of unveiling a plaque with his name in the Asca premises.

“Thank you Franklin for your enormous contribution to the development of civil aviation in the Dominican Republic and for accompanying us in the efforts to successfully face and overcome these last four years,” stressed Porcella, when formalizing the tribute.

The ceremony was attended by Polanco’s wife and children and by the main aviation authorities, including the commander general of the Dominican Republic Air Force, Major General Carlos Febrillet Rodríguez; the director general of the Specialized Airport Security Corps, General Floreal Suárez Martínez; the member of the Civil Aviation Board, Tony Yapor; the deputy director of IDAC, Miguel Mejía; and the director of Asca, Clara Fernández.

Polanco’s wife Patria and Franklin Polanco Jr., intervened in the ceremony, as well as Miss Sonia Villanueva to thank the recognition on behalf of the entire family represented by his five children and seven grand children.

Franklin Polanco, who has been one of the main advisors of IDAC since the initial years of the institution, was for many years director of the Information Service of the United States Embassy. In recent years he has faced a health situation that has limited his public activities.
